I have been working with Midwest City Training Chief Brian Brush as well as Trustee Hackworth on scheduling the PEER Support Training in March. The contract with IAFF has been signed and dates and location set. It will be March 5th and 6th at Rose State College; 1720 Hudiburg Drive, MWC Ok and cost will be $200 for PFFO members and $300 for non-PFFO members.
We have made multiple meeting requests to the Governor’s office seeking an opportunity to discuss the Governor’s veto of our FPAA bill this past session but have had no luck. At the very least we need to be able to find a path forward for locals to certify. I have received some language from the IAFF dealing with certifying and we will work to get an author so we can move forward with a bill this Spring.
I have been working with IAFF VP McGhee to get a letter prepared to assist Berryhill and Grove in their efforts to gain recognition to collectively bargain. I believe Berryhill was turning their letter in today and there is potential for this issue to end up in court.
I am also working with Sandy on an issue in Alva where the City has contracted with a “professional employer organization” which assists employers in payroll, HR, taxes, and benefits administration. The issue with that is the City of Alva and the PEO have asked the local to sign an agreement that calls for the PEO to be a co-employer and to lease the employees. I requested that IAFF Legal take a look at the agreement and the pension systems legal team is looking at it as well. The company representative stated that the company has never contracted with a municipality before and so we have advised the Local not to sign the agreement.
Hannah and I have been working to get the board room back in shape as well as the rest of the office, I very much appreciate her help!
